Hey there, fellow road trippers!
Welcome to One California Day, and thanks for stopping by! Here’s a little about me and my inspiration for starting this business.
I was born and raised in Canada, but am a true California girl at heart. My California dreams came true in 2015 when I took a huge leap of faith and drove the ultimate of all road trips along Route 66 to Los Angeles, where I reside today.
With an entrepreneurial spirit and a curious nature, creating memorable travel experiences has always been a passion of mine. I have spent my career as a tourism & hospitality marketer, representing some of the world’s best hotels, restaurant and destinations. I also ran a successful culinary tourism business in Canada, and wrote a blog called Hello California, which served as a love letter of sorts to my adopted home.
When the pandemic hit, the travel industry (and the world) came to a screeching halt and I lost my job. Like many others, I began to re-evaluate my priorities and reimagine my dream life. I realized that freedom was what I wanted most: Freedom to control my own destiny; freedom to make my own success; freedom to decide how I wanted to spend my time, where and with whom. I spent those early days of lockdown driving up the Pacific Coast Highway to Malibu, where I would pull over to watch the waves and breathe in the salty ocean air before driving back home. This twice-weekly exercise was how I maintained my sanity and kept my loneliness in check. It was also during this time that I had an epiphany—that road tripping is an enjoyable and authentic way to discover a destination without the many hassles of modern-day travel. You simply get in the car and go!
I originally created One California Day to encourage and inspire travelers to hit the open road, savor new experiences, meet interesting people, support local businesses, and discover every stunning mile of California. The business has since evolved to become a full-fledged travel advisory specializing in California (although we can plan a trip anywhere in the world your wanderlusting heart desires), from insider tips and recommendations to preset one-day road trips and custom multi-day itineraries.
