WHAT IS ONE CALIFORNIA DAY?
One California Day is an innovative, sustainably minded travel company that has reimagined the quintessential California road trip. Our curated surprise itineraries guide you to California’s most incredible, and sometimes lesser known, destinations, one memorable day at a time. We partner with local businesses to ensure you get the most authentic and fun experience possible.
HOW DOES A ONE CALIFORNIA DAY ROAD TRIP WORK?
It’s simple: You purchase the day trip of your choice based on your starting location—Los Angeles, San Diego or San Francisco—and decide whether you want to receive a “surprise” package in the mail or have us email you a digital download for immediate gratification.
Should you choose the mailed option, in about 5-7 business days you will receive a package that includes a series of envelopes meant to be opened the day of your trip. We encourage you to open one envelope at a time as you progress through the day to keep the surprises coming along the way. We also include a memorable little keepsake you’ll definitely want to use on the adventure.
If you can’t wait for the big reveal, the digital download may be your preferred option. You won’t be surprised, but you’ll get to plan your day in advance. Unfortunately, the keepsake is not included with this downloadable option.
Once you receive the itinerary, all you have to do is hit the road and have fun!
WHAT’S INCLUDED IN THE PURCHASE?
You are purchasing a day-trip travel itinerary. Each itinerary includes a road-trip planning checklist, a destination reveal, detailed descriptions of each stop, and recommended roadside attractions to enjoy along the way.
WHAT’S NOT INCLUDED PURCHASE?
Your purchase includes the itinerary only. You are responsible for any transportation costs to get to the destination (gas, car rental, etc.), as well as any attraction entrance fees, ticket purchases, meals, shopping purchases or any additional expenses incurred during the trip.
WHEN CAN I USE THIS TRIP?
The trips are designed to be used at your convenience, seven days a week during usual business hours. We note hours of operation at all of our recommended stops. For stops that might not be open on certain days or offer limited hours, we will provide an alternative for that particular day. Note: Your surprise package takes 5-7 business days to arrive at your home, so please allow for that when planning your getaway.
WHERE DO YOUR TRIPS DEPART FROM?
Currently, we offer trips departing from three major destinations in California—Los Angeles, San Francisco and San Diego.
HOW LONG ARE THE TRIPS?
We believe a decent road trip is 10 hours, and all of our Journey itineraries have a maximum of 2-3 hours of drive time each way so you have more time to enjoy the destination. We recommend you plan to leave early in the morning (by 9am) in order to maximize your day.
We also offer mini day trips, called Jaunts, featuring locations within an hour’s drive of your departure city. These are meant to be enjoyed in about half the time as the Journeys.
ARE THERE ADDITIONAL COSTS AT EACH STOP?
Many of the stops do not have entrance fees, and those that do will be identified in the itinerary. Any fees, ticket purchases, meals or other purchases made at the stops are your responsibility.
DO I NEED TO MAKE RESERVATIONS?
If reservations are recommended or necessary, we will note this in the itinerary. Our job is to guide you to the best places, but all reservations are your responsibility.
CAN I BRING MY DOG?
California is an extremely dog-friendly state, and most places will accommodate your furry family member. If an itinerary, or a stop on an itinerary, isn’t dog friendly we will be sure to point that out. Otherwise, by all means, bring Fido along for the adventure.
CAN I STAY OVERNIGHT?
Absolutely! With every itinerary, we provide a handpicked list of our favorite hotel accommodations should you decide to stay over. Unfortunately we are unable to make the reservation for you.
CAN I GIFT A TRIP TO SOMEONE?
Yes! Our trips make wonderful gifts for family, friends, and special occasions. You can purchase a digital gift card for the full value of an itinerary here.
WHAT MAKES ONE CALIFORNIA DAY SUSTAINABLE?
We are sustainably minded in our business practices, ensuring our itineraries are printed and packaged using Forest Council Certified paper and biodegradable materials wherever possible. We also offer a digital download as an eco-friendly option. All of our itineraries include sustainable travel tips encouraging our travelers to leave a small footprint.
Our focus is local travel experiences, and we strive to offset as many carbon emissions as possible, which is why we have partnered with 1% for the Planet. We have also partnered with One Tree Planted to plant one tree for every $1 donation made by our customers. $1 equals 1 tree!
